The Devil in the White City

Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair by Erik Larson

Our next combined Westport/Westport Sunrise Rotary Book Group will meet Monday, November 16 from 6:00pm - 8:00pm.  We will be discussing The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America by Erik Larson.

We'll gather for dinner at the home of Wafaa Naggar at 6:00 pm, and discuss the book.  All are welcome, including partners, even if the Rotarian does not come, so if your partner is a reader, please let them know.

Let Yvonne (ysenturia@yahoo.com) know if you are coming (and how many), and she will send you the address.

Attend the District Foundation Recognition Brunch

====================================================

Fairfield County's Community Foundation extends a special invitation to join for an evening of community, connection, and conversation in Bridgeport.

On Monday, November 16, from 5:30–8 p.m., there will be gathering at Park City Presents in Bridgeport's Black Rock neighborhood to shine a light on the important work of several Black-led nonprofits creating opportunities for young people through arts and sports community-based programming.

The evening is being hosted by The SOUL Fund, a community-led giving circle housed at the Foundation that brings people together to support Black-led nonprofits across Fairfield County.

The event will begin with an informal reception, offering a chance to connect with others, enjoy light refreshments, and get to know some of the organizations doing this work.

Then, you'll hear directly from leaders at Park City Presents, Neighborhood Studios, RF Youth Boxing, Bridgeport Youth Lacrosse, and Sawubona about the young people they serve, the impact they're making, and the opportunities they see to do even more.

You'll also have an opportunity to learn a little more about The SOUL Fund and how you might become part of this growing community of people committed to making a difference together.

The event is free to attend. If you're interested, simply email to Ryan Deal (RDeal@fccfoundation.org) Sr. Director of Innovation & Community Philanthropy, with the names of those who would like to attend. He'll follow up with additional details about the venue, parking, and other logistics.

As every year, we'll have our annual Wine Tasting Uncorked Gala on November 5th at The Inn at Longshore. Buy your entry before the tickets run out.

GILLESPIE CENTER COOKING / SERVING SCHEDULE

One of our club’s ongoing and rewarding commitments to community service is our commitment to serving dinner meals on the first Saturday of each month at the Gillespie Center here in Westport.

We are back to serving meals at the newly renovated Gillespie Center. We have the option to drop off prepared meals at 4:30 PM or to bring meals to serve in person at 4:40 PM (allow extra time if the meals need to be reheated). Meal service should include a main dish, side dish, vegetable, and dessert (no nuts or shellfish please). The number of meals to provide, currently 25, will be confirmed to you to in advance when it is your turn to serve.

If you choose to drop off prepared meals at 4:30 PM you have the option to prepare homemade meals, purchase prepared meals at the store/restaurant of your choice, or you can contact Fresh Market on the Post Road in Westport where you can purchase prepared meals (protein, two sides and cookies for $7 - $10 per meal). If you choose the Fresh Market option call Tory at 203 227-2910 on the Monday prior to your meal service to place your order. You can pay for the meals when you pick them up.

If you are unable to work on your assigned Saturday you will be responsible to call other Rotarians on the list to switch dates.

Thank you for your service,

Bruce Fritz
